Also everyone knows that a current day split in PoW and PoS Ethereum is going to be way more of a nightmare than when Ethereum Classic happened (if both chains would turn out viable). The ecosystem is way bigger now. It’s the elephant in the room…

Pure waste of resources

Facilities like Riot Whinstone, the largest bitcoin mine in the country, located in Rockdale, Texas, use a hell of a lot of energy to power their nearly 100,000 ASICs.

And what for? 13+ years and still no pertinent use case, except financial speculation or crime…

Of course, the basic design makes that almost impossible. Proof of "work" is really proof of wasting resources. The only way to reduce CO2 emissions is to reduce the mining reward and reduce the corresponding security.
